Paid parking is $1 per hour, but the machines are less than optimal. Our best suggestion is to download FLOWBIRD (Apple) (Android) ahead of time and use it when you are ready to park — free parking after 6 PM and on weekends.
Public Safety:
While Redding is generally a pretty safe city, we do not recommend walking alone in Downtown Redding after dark.

The Mt. Shasta Mall is the main shopping hub in Redding. It has some of the standard anchor stores, like JCPenney, Macy’s, GNC, Hot Topic, Torrid, Ulta Beauty and others, along with a few regional ones.
The food court is not much to speak of, but there are many restaurants close by, like Outback, Chick-fil-A, and Panda Express.
The Mt Shasta Mall is centrally located, easy to get to, and is close to everything in Redding.
Locally owned, nearby restaurant alternatives that we recommend:

Haunted? Absolutely!
Shasta State Historic Park is located just 10 minutes west of Redding on Highway 299. Or, as we locals call it, “Old Shasta.”
Stuck in a time bubble, Old Shasta is what remains of the original gold-mining town of Shasta, complete with a museum, original cemetery, jail, and gallows (sans rope).
Old Shasta is well worth a visit.

Situated on 300 acres along the Sacramento River in Redding, California, Turtle Bay Exploration Park is a vibrant cultural center that hosts a number of exciting attractions, such as a museum, both indoor and outdoor animal exhibits, playgrounds, gardens, and the renowned Sundial Bridge.

The Sundial Bridge is the Eiffel Tower of Redding; it is the iconic center of attraction, and rightfully so.
Set in an idyllic location, the Sundial Bridge spans the Sacramento River and connects the north and south Sacramento River Trail.
The bridge is open to pedestrians and cyclists alike and is free to explore.
Bonus: The Sundial Bridge is a working sundial, one day per year. Kind of.
